FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN I LEAD A RETREAT AT EKAWA?
Yes! A wild and beautiful rainforest sanctuary supports retreat and workshop leaders in guiding groups through healing, transformative and creative experiences. We love to host gatherings around the topics of yoga, breathwork, sacred femininity / masculinity, visions quests, permaculture, eco-building, healthy eating, arts/crafts and other related topics. The hosting space overlaps with the project space, for synergies to emerge between the two. If this sounds interesting to you please tell us about the event you’d like to run including ideal dates (via our contact form).
CAN I DEVELOP MY OWN PROJECT AT EKAWA?
As part of the symbiosis residency we welcome and encourage participants to explore and develop their own initiatives in the fields of alternative living and connection with nature. The weekly rhythm at Ekawa includes time for personal explorations. In addition, projects that make a big contribution to the watershed can become the main area of focus for participants during their residency.
HOW CAN I LEARN TO BUILD SCULPTURAL BAMBOO BUILDINGS?
Come and take part in a bamboo apprenticeship! It is an immersive experience in the world of bamboo where we build sculptural designs together. The learning is tailored to the backgrounds of each participant. Whether you are an architect who wants to learn about designing and building with bamboo, an eco-builder who wants to include bamboo in their palette of materials, or a complete beginner, the apprenticeship is flexible in timescale, allowing you to be part of a single phase in a construction or multiple projects. In this region, there is a growing demand for uplifting natural bamboo architecture and we are open to connecting with like-minded designers/builders for future collaborations.
DOES EKAWA OFFER DESIGN AND BUILD SERVICES FOR BAMBOO CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS?
Our main focus at this stage is the creation of a rainforest sanctuary. Having said that, we are passionate about sharing the joy of bamboo architecture. Depending on how aligned the project feels to our core values and other factors such as location, we are open to receiving invitations to collaborate to design and possibly build for others. Our aim is that a community of alumni from the bamboo apprenticeship can be connected with bamboo construction projects such that our ways of imagining and making buildings can be shared further.
